Stronger weathering at difficult roof junctions
The whole junction checked
We inspect laps, edges and nearby coverings before defining the repair.
Material choice explained
We discuss leadwork or Lava 20 according to the detail involved.
Water flow restored
We form repairs to return rain safely to the main roof covering.
Seal the places where roof surfaces meet
Chimneys, abutments and changes in the roof plane interrupt the normal flow of rainwater. Flashing covers these vulnerable junctions and directs water back onto the roof. If lead lifts, splits, moves or pulls away, damp can appear near the adjoining wall or chimney breast. We inspect the junction at roof level, including its laps, edges and relationship with nearby slate or tiles. That tells us whether the detail can be repaired, needs correct relaying or should be renewed. We focus on the route water takes, not just the most visible crack or indoor stain.

Traditional leadwork or a Lava 20 alternative
We provide traditional leadwork and Lava 20 liquid-solution roofing as an alternative for suitable details. The right material depends on the shape, movement and condition of the junction being treated. We remove or prepare failed areas, then form or apply the chosen system so laps and edges shed rain correctly. Nearby coverings may need lifting and reinstating to complete the detail rather than sealing over its face. Once finished, we check the water path around the abutment, chimney or change in level and make sure the work ties into the surrounding roof.
Frequently asked questions
Can failed flashing cause damp beside a chimney?
Yes. Lifted, cracked or poorly lapped flashing can let water enter where the chimney meets the roof. Mortar and masonry may also contribute, so we inspect the full junction before deciding which component needs repair.
What is the Lava 20 option used for?
Lava 20 is the liquid-solution alternative available through our roofing service. Its suitability depends on the detail, substrate and repair area. We explain when it fits the junction and when traditional leadwork is the more suitable route.
Can old leadwork be relaid instead of replaced?
Relaying may be possible when the material remains suitable and the defect lies in its position or detailing. We check its condition, movement and laps first. If deterioration is too advanced, renewal may provide a sounder weathering detail.
